About Ms. Sloan
My name is Andrea Sloan, and I teach first grade at Woodland Park Academy. This will be my 12th year of teaching at WPA. During my first year, I taught science to second to eighth grade students. Then I taught third grade for six years. This will be my fourth year teaching first grade.
I grew up in the thumb area of Michigan in the small town of Cass City. I loved growing up in a rural area with horses, goats, rabbits, cats, dogs, and lots of woods to explore in. I now live in Rochester Hills and love the excitement and busy city life just as much!
I earned my bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Oakland University. In 1998 I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with minors in math and Science. In 2007 I received my Master’s Degree in Reading Language Arts.
I have a black cat named Allie and a border collie/ boxer mix dog named Josie. They are a lot of fun! In my free time I enjoy relaxing, reading, traveling, walking my dog Josie, and swimming. I also enjoy spending time with my parents and my three sisters. I have two nieces and three nephews ranging from the age of 22 to 3 years old. Being with my family makes me happy because we are always laughing and having fun!
My goal as your child’s teacher is to provide a safe and educational learning environment. I want each child to learn the necessary tools to become successful in life—not only the skills in language arts and math, but also life skills such as respect and cooperation.
