I am Kendra Rae and this is my fourth year here at WPA. I teach 6th grade and I love it! Sixth graders are full of wonder, spunk, ideas and opinions, and of course, hormones. I certainly never have a dull day.
One of the things I love about WPA is the way our administration lets us find the tools that work best for each child, rather than making us stick to a scripted curriculum. They are always interested in making available to us the latest in best practices, materials, and staff training. Even though budget is always an issue, we have some of the finest tools in the state available to us. Mrs. Chesnut and I work together as a team, trying to find the best solutions for our groups. We collaborate and share materials. This makes sixth grade at WPA a very fun place to be.
As a middle school teacher, I feel one of my jobs is to prepare my students for their high school years and beyond. Therefore, I hold them accountable for their actions. I require homework to be turned in on time if it is to receive credit. I expect them to keep themselves under control in the classroom and to represent their school with pride when we are away.
I love to hear from the parents of my students, whether it is to pop in once in a while, send an email, write a note in the planner, or give me a call. I want your children to know that you and I are a team that communicates. That’s why I rely heavily on the daily email. Please check your child’s grades on Focus regularly so there’ll be no surprises at report card time. I will be entering grades at the beginning of each week. If you don’t know how to access your child’s information on Focus, please call the office for a website and password.
Any time you have a concern, please email me at: krae@wp-academy.org or call me at: 810-579-2520. The lines are protected so they won’t ring into the rooms during class. Just leave a voice mail and I’ll get back with you as soon as I can.
