About Mrs. Cummings

Welcome to 3rd grade!!! I am so excited about our upcoming school year. This will be my third full year teaching at Woodland Park Academy. I am looking forward to getting to know all of my 3rd grade students throughout the school year.

Family:
I am married to Matt and our son Brayden will be 7 years old and is in the 2nd grade. We have a miniature daschund named Charlie-Dude and a chug (chihuahua/pug) named Chewie.

Hobbies:
Most of my free time is spent hanging out with my family and friends. We love to go to the lake, hang out by the pool, go on vacations, and have campfires. I also LOVE to read! In the summer I enjoy spending my time watching Brayden play Baseball, while I play volleyball and softball.

Career:
I grew up in the small town of Genesee, where I attended the same school for 13 years. After graduation I attended Saginaw Valley State University, then graduated from Baker College in 2007. Since receiving my degree I have worked in various long-term subbing positions from 2nd through 5th grades, and have also worked as a Literacy Assistant. In August of 2010 I received my Master’s Degree in the Art of teaching Reading & Literacy through Marygrove College.

Educational Philosophy:
I believe that every student is a unique and valuable individual, with unique desires, abilities, needs, and learning styles. I believe that every child had the capability to learn.  The learning experience should be an active process and must be interesting.  I believe that children learn best in an environment that is safe, caring, comfortable, and fun.  It also encourages respect and responsibility from the students.  The school and classroom need to have a set of established rules that do not hinder, but support and strengthen learning.  I will always show excitement and a love for learning.  I believe that children need to have positive motivators in order to succeed.  I will strive to be a positive, patient, and enthusiastic role model for my students.  I want all of my students to know they can make a difference in this world, because they are the future!

If you ever have any questions or concerns please email
(scummings@wp-academy.org) or call me (810-695-4710) and I will get back to you at my earliest convenience.  I believe that communication is the key to your child’s success, so please don’t hesitate to contact me.
