Dear Parents/Guardians:
Welcome to the 4th grade at Woodland Park Academy! I hope that you had a great summer. This will be my sixth year teaching at Woodland Park Academy, but my first year in the fourth grade. I am really looking forward to the change. Since my student teaching experience was in the fourth grade, fourth graders have always had a special place in my heart. When Mr. Erickson took the P.E. teaching position, I jumped at the opportunity to be back in the fourth grade. I am thrilled to be working closely with Mrs. Purdy, a dedicated, hardworking teaching partner. We have already been hard at work planning for a fantastic year.
There are a lot of exciting things in place for this year at Woodland Park Academy. The Board of Education, Administration and staff are all working hard to insure the best possible educational experience for your child. That includes staying up-to-date with current educational practices and providing enriching extra-curricular activities. I hope that you will encourage your child to take advantage of these opportunities this year.
The fourth grade will be an exciting year for your child. Moving into upper elementary is a big transition for students. Students are expected to take on more and more responsibility each year. One of our goals as 4th grade teachers is to help your child become more responsible. Another goal will be to help instill the love of learning in your child. For that reason, I will emphasize that I am learning alongside them. It will also help if you, as parents/guardians, will emphasize your love of learning at home and at your work places. Children love to see and hear that adults are still learning new things every single day!
It is my philosophy that families, teachers, administrators, and the community should work together to provide the best educational opportunities for all students. My objective is to help your child have a successful and memorable fourth grade year, and further prepare him/her for the rest of his/her elementary school experiences. Please do not hesitate to call or email me if you have any concerns or questions. During school hours, please call the office at (810) 695-4710 and they will transfer you to my voicemail. My email address is tchesnut@wp-academy.org. It will be beneficial to everyone concerned to address problems or concerns as they arise.
I look forward to a wonderful school year!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Chesnut
