Physical Education with Mr. Kittleson

My name is Mr. Jason Kittleson and I will be your child’s Physical and Health Education teacher for the 2010-2011 school year. I am very excited to be working with you and your child on the importance of their physical well being as they begin to develop into healthy young people. I would also like to take this opportunity to tell you a little about myself.
This is my first year of teaching at Woodland Park Academy and my fourth year overall. I graduated from Saginaw Valley State University in 2004 with a Bachelor of Arts in K-12 Physical and Health Education and Recreation. I also received a Master of Arts in Education with a focus in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Phoenix. I grew up in the small but beautiful town of Frankfort, MI which is located on the shores of Lake Michigan. I still spend my summers and many weekends in Frankfort visiting friends, family, and most of all, my son Jayden, who will turn two in January. When I am not teaching, I enjoy watching college football (Go Blue!!), playing sports (especially golf!!), and spending time with my son, friends, and family.
Teaching Philosophy
Physical Education is an integral part of the total educational program of each student in our district. Through the medium of sport and movement all students will participate in a sequential, differentiated program that fosters each student's personal health, fitness and safety. Through exposure to a wide variety of activities, students will gain the necessary knowledge to understand the importance of and make educated decisions around opportunities to achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Myself and Woodland Park Academy are committed to and supports the development of a positive and appropriate values driven education. Social skills which include but are not limited to respect, cooperation, communication, teamwork and sportsmanship are an important aspect of the Physical Education curriculum and will be directly taught throughout the student's school career.
The values, principles and concepts associated with a quality physical education program surpass the boundaries of the gymnasium and playing fields. Physical activity is a catalyst for learning in all content areas. I am committed to providing programming in physical education which allows frequent and diverse opportunities to engage in physical activities necessary to support a healthy mind and body
I will be encouraging your child to learn how to be physically active in ways that assist their physical, social, emotional and cognitive development and abilities. It is my goal to develop a desire for lifelong physical activity. In class, I look forward to a productive year with movement, fun, and learning.
