Music with  Mrs. Kilmer

Welcome to Music!

Woodland Park Academy
Music Program

Music class should be a positive, fun experience where every student develops a wonderful love of music and a desire to learn more about it.
We will explore music from all sides…singing, moving, seeing, listening, playing and creating.

K-2 students have music twice a week.
Students in grades 3-5 are involved in a weekly music class.

Beginning in Second grade, students can choose to start string class with our strings teacher.

Fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students have the opportunity to join beginning band in an after school series.

Students in Fifth through Eighth grades can choose to join the Advanced Band Elective, Rock Band Elective.

Here are a few elements that will be included in your child’s music class.

Purposeful movement
Independent movement
Singing and exploring pitch
Singing in a group and, possibly, individually
Playing rhythm instruments with and without music accompaniment
Learning to identify musical elements, such as high and low, soft and loud, notes and rests,  meter, tempo and dynamics

Preparation for and performance of  a Winter and Spring Fine Arts Program

ABOUT ME
I live in Vassar with my husband and three kids.  Music has always been a part of my life.  I attended U of M-Flint and obtained a Bachelor of Music Education degree.  I am pursuing a Master’s Degree of Arts in Education. My main instruments are bassoon, piano, guitar and voice.  I sing and play piano regularly in church and perform on bassoon with a woodwind quintet, community band and the local pit orchestra.

I look forward to a wonderful and musical year with you here at WPA!
